In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Sam was pilloried, as I had been in 2014, by the BJP and sections of the media for having described Dravidians as descendants from Africa in the course of explaining the diversity of India in race and colour. Astonishingly, for this remark he was dropped from chairmanship of the Indian Overseas Congress. A few months later, he was restored to his old office, but I continue to moulder on the margins!
